Scoobs

The gang takes the Mystery Machine somewhere interesting. Chaos breaks out. Shaggy and Scooby save the day. It is a standard cycle. Scooby-Doo has a pretty solid pattern to its shows and movies, and it has been engaging audiences for over fifty years.
My kids probably watched Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery over two dozen times. They sang along to all the Kiss songs in the movie. We even had a Catman and Starchild for Halloween one year.
It was a little painful for me because Kiss is terrible. Just awful. Mediocre music, boring lyrics, and dumb costumes.
Over time, I began to associate their songs with the joy my children experienced. The music grew on me. While never appearing on my playlists, my disdain certainly faded. Faded to the point that I enjoy hearing the songs when I am out and about.
I sometimes see these differences as right and wrong. I was right that Kiss was garbage music with cheesy boots and Spandex. But does that make my kids wrong for enjoying it? Perhaps it isn't about right or wrong. Perhaps it is just taste. Maybe my right bands, books, procedures, or ways are just preferences because of my tastes.
Am I really right about my way, or is it is simply a preference? Can I accept that we have separate tastes? Will I give your things enough of a chance to see if I grow to appreciate them?
Be curious, be kind, be whole, do good things.
